Potato Masala for Dosa

Potato Masala is a good side dish for any kind of Dosa. Masala dosa is a South Indian delicacy and my MIL always orders this when we go  to the restaurant .Whenever I make dosas for dinner I make potato masala  with coconut or tomato chutney. My hubby absolutely loves it. Its very easy to make and kids also like it as I do not  make it very spicy. We can adjust the number of green chills to increase or decrease the spice levels.

Preparation time -  30 minutes

Serving - 4

Ingredients

2 Large Potatoes
1 small onion finely chopped
1 green chill finelly chopped
3-4 curry leaves
1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
1/2 Tsp mustard seeds
1/2 Tsp turmeric Powder
1/2 Tsp salt
1 tsp cilantro chopped
2 tsp Oil

Procedure
  1. Boil the potato until its soft, peal the skin and cut it in to small pieces
  2. In a frying pan heat oil on medium. Add the mustard seed and cumin seeds. once they crack add the chopped onion, chili, curry leaves and saute for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the turmeric, potatoes and salt and mix it together. If it is too dry add a little water and cook it for few minutes.
  4. Garnish with cilantro.
  5. Serve hot with Dosa
Variations

  1. Add 1/2 Tsp garam masala it gives the curry a nice taste.
  2. Add 1/2 Tsp lemon juice if u like the tangy taste. lemon juice should be added when you turn the stove off.
  3. We can also add boiled green peas along with the potato.
  4. I usually microwave my potatoes in the potatoes settings and this reduces the cooking time in half.
Potato masala is ready and can be rolled inside the dosa or served on the side with any kind of dosa.
